|Symptoms indicated by customer||
Our DELL server suddenly failed to boot up in the morning. Message "Media test failure, check cable" was indicated on its display. According to DELL support, 2 hard disks were faulty, and re-setup is required. The server contained important data from all departments, necessitating swift recovery.
|Details of Diagnosis||Checking the RAID configuration revealed a RAID5 configuration with 4 hard disks. And minor physical faults were found in 2 of the 4 disks after diagnosing with our equipments. Consequently, magnetic information from the 2 disks was transferred to a separate, normally functioning hard disk. RAID was then reconfigured with the normally functioning 2 disks and 2 disks for which the information was transferred, completing safe data extraction.|
Over 95% of the data was successfully recovered from the server.

The customer confirmed the successful data recovery the following morning. they were also extremely pleased that the recovery was carried out within the target time frame. We understand the desire to try anything to recover the situation in the face of sudden trouble such as this, however, there have been many cases involving RAID equipment in the past in which data has been further compromised by failed attempts at recovery. Reckless recovery of data from RAID equipment is dangerous, and therefore due caution is advised. This will also reduce the chance of successful data recovery. Contact us if experiencing problems with such equipment.
